Why do I need an Expert to write my Nexus Letter?
By submitting a nexus letter, you are focusing the claim on the facts and offering an expert opinion to support your claim. The expert medical opinion can assist you in supporting your claim with use of the supporting documents and connecting your claimed condition to your military service. The medical expert is offered as a neutral party that you had review your claim and offer an opinion.
Getting an Expert to Review Your Records and write your Nexus Letter.
When you make the decision to use an expert, consider using a Doctor with credentials. Consider using a Doctor with prior military service and experience in conducting US Military Medical Exam Board processes. Former U.S. Military Physicians that have served on medical boards for physical profiles and medical board separation processing have unique perspectives on how to review you military medical records. Doctors that have a background in VA Compensation & Pension examinations also possess a knowledge base that is uniquely relevant to the review of your records. By using a credentialed expert to review your medical records, you are connecting your claimed condition to your military service in a way that is more difficult to deny. This potentially improve your chances of getting approved.
Where should I start
If this is your first time to make a VA claim for benefits, then start by obtaining all your medical records and military service records pertinent to your condition. The review of your medical records can start the process on the correct path to a favorable adjudication by VBA. You may use medical records from your Military Service, VA visits or your private practice providers seen in the past, witness statements. The VA is required to give you the information that they have collected about your medical condition and any prior claims. This is called your Claim File or “C-File”. You can and should obtain a copy of your C-file. See references below for more information.
